Why dollies are matched, not universal
A plastic dolly is molded with a deck or rim that locates the bottom of one container model. A tote that is a fraction of an inch off, or has a different base pattern, may sit on the dolly but will not lock in, and a loaded stack can shift when the dolly crosses a threshold or truck lift gate. Distribution dollies vs bakery dollies
Distribution dollies
The Monoflo DC 2818 distribution dolly is identified for 27 × 17 × 12 attached lid totes. It is not a general tote dolly, so other tote sizes need their own confirmed match.
Bakery dollies
Monoflo bakery dollies are sized to each bakery tray footprint and roll on 3 in casters, the usual setup for route trucks and store back rooms.
Space-saver designs
Space-saver versions for the 26 × 21 and 26 × 22 in trays are built to take up less room when empty dollies are returned. Specify standard or space-saver as distinct models.
What to check before ordering dollies
- The container model. Give the full tote or tray model number. A similar footprint is not proof of a matched base.
- Floor and route. Smooth plant floors, rough parking lots, dock plates and truck lift gates all treat small casters differently. Describe the worst surface on the route.
- Working load. Estimate the heaviest loaded stack and check the rated capacity of the exact dolly model before you set stack heights.
- Stack height. Taller stacks are harder to push and see over. Set a maximum number of totes or trays per dolly that suits your people and truck height.
- Empty return. Decide whether empty dollies ride back stacked on each other or on top of nested totes, and whether a space-saver design is worth specifying.

Plan the dolly count with the container count.
