Attached lid totes keep goods closed in transit and nest when empty, which is why distribution centers, retailers and parts operations use them for returnable shipping loops. Wholesale Industry quotes 13 new Monoflo attached lid tote models, from compact 18 × 13 in totes to the long 39 × 14 in DC 3914-12 HP.

What an attached lid tote does

An attached lid tote (also called a distribution container or flip-lid tote) has two hinged lid flaps that close over the load and interlock so loaded totes stack. Opened and emptied, the tapered walls let the totes nest inside one another, so the return trip takes a fraction of the space of the outbound load. That stack-full, nest-empty cycle is the reason to choose this format over a straight-wall container with a loose lid.

All models are new Monoflo attached-lid totes, listed by outside footprint and height in inches:

How to choose the right tote

Size to the product, lids closed

Measure your largest item or typical pick and check it against the usable interior with the lids shut. Tapered nesting walls mean the floor is smaller than the rim.

Pick the base

Monoflo offers closed, drain-hole and open-grid bases. Closed bottoms contain small parts and spills; drain holes and open grids suit washing and wet product. Conveyor lines may favor one design.

Plan handling

Decide how stacks will move. A matched dolly, such as the DC 2818 for 27 × 17 × 12 totes, is a separate item listed under dollies.

Common applications

Sizing a returnable tote fleet

A closed-loop tote program needs more totes than the number in use on any given day. Count the totes sitting at stores or customer sites, the totes on trucks in both directions, the totes being picked or washed at the DC, and a reserve for loss and damage. Shrinkage is the cost most programs underestimate, so track totes by label or barcode from day one and plan periodic top-up orders of the same model.

Standardizing on one or two footprints also pays off. Totes of the same footprint share dollies, stack in the same truck pattern and nest together on the return. If you run several heights in one footprint, such as the 21 × 15 in totes at 9, 12 and 17 in, check whether different heights nest within each other or only with their own model before you mix them on a backhaul.

Reordering an existing fleet

When replacing or expanding an existing fleet, send a photo of the model marking molded into the tote, along with its outside dimensions. Suffixes such as SP, HP, SP1 and SM distinguish versions with the same nominal size, and matching the exact model keeps new totes compatible with your stacks, dollies and conveyors.

Procurement checklist

  1. Identify the exact model, including suffix, or the usable clearance you need.
  2. Choose a base: closed, drain-hole or open-grid.
  3. List hinge, seal, label and tracking requirements.
  4. Decide whether you need matched dollies and how many totes per stack.
  5. Set quantity per model and the delivery ZIP.

These are new factory totes, so minimum order quantities apply; minimums vary by product and condition and are confirmed with availability in your quote. Many buyers add related items, such as handheld collapsible containers or pallets for the outbound load, to the same request.

Request pricing on attached lid totes

Send the model numbers, base choice, quantity per model, any dolly or labeling needs and your delivery ZIP through the quote request form, or call 855-964-2534. Freight is quoted to your ZIP and full truckloads are quoted individually. Quantity pricing tiers and availability are confirmed with the quote.

Frequently asked questions

Do attached lid totes nest when empty?

Yes. With the lids open, the tapered walls let empty totes nest inside each other, which cuts space on return trips and in storage. When closed and loaded, the lids form a flat top so totes stack. Confirm the stacking and nesting arrangement for the exact model you choose.

What is the difference between the HP and SP versions of the 21 × 15 × 12 tote?

They are separate Monoflo models, DC 2115-12 HP and DC 2115-12 SP, with the same nominal outside size. If you are adding to an existing fleet, check the model marking on the totes you already use and quote that one so the new totes match in stacking and handling.

Can attached lid totes be sealed?

Most distribution totes are designed so the lid flaps can be secured with a zip tie or tamper-evident seal through the lid. Tell us how you plan to seal or lock the totes and the seal arrangement is confirmed against the model offered in your quote.

Which dolly fits Monoflo attached lid totes?

Dollies are matched by model, not general size. Monoflo identifies the DC 2818 distribution dolly for its 27 × 17 × 12 attached lid totes. For other tote sizes, send the tote model and dolly requirements and the pairing is confirmed before you order.

Are these totes new or used?

The attached lid totes listed on this page are new Monoflo models. New factory items carry minimum order quantities, which vary by product and are confirmed in your quote together with availability and freight to your ZIP. If you need used or mixed-condition containers for another part of the project, ask in the same request.
